Tired of trusting your life to 30-year-old home-made anchors? Join Bob D'Antonio and friends for the inaugural Shelf Road Anchor Replacement Weekend, November 9-10, 2013. Volunteers will work with experienced route developers to replace worn bolts and hangers primarily at Cactus Cliff. This is a great opportunity for neophytes to learn the basics of anchor placement, and a great way to ensure the safety and enjoyment of climbing at one of Colorado's most popular crags. Replacement anchors have been provided by the American Safe Climbing Association and Fixe Hardware

Fun!
Fun!

Saturday night festivities will include:

  • Free Food

  • Free Gear Giveaway

More information on the event can be found here. Additional details will be posted to this thread as they become available.

Update
The BLM is offering free camping for volunteers at the Bank Group Site. They also have some trailwork/maintenance projects in mind for those who aren't willing/able to participate in anchor replacement.

Volunteers should congregate at the kiosk below Cactus Cliff at 10:00am on Saturday morning. We will plan to work ~10am-4pm, then Beer & Brats will be ~5pm at the Bank Campground, with the gear giveaway and slideshow starting around 7ish.

Super huge thanks to Bob D for organizing this, as well as Derek Lawrence and Bruno Hache for the ton of work they put into it. Mark (Monomaniac) gave a really cool slideshow, even after a hectic day. Big thanks to Saint Kate, Logan, and Amelie for hanging in there.

There were a bunch of other folks that put a lot of time and effort into helping out. I didn't meet everybody, but it was cool having Lucas there helping out at Back to the Future wall, along with Laura and Travis. Kai gave spiritual support from the ground. Saint Sarah had fun doing rigging work. Really fun day.

Also, thanks to the sponsors who gave hardware and sweet prizes, including Fixe, Trango, and Bob D giving away guide books, as well as cooking some kick ass brats. Avery brewing came through big, just like always - I honestly think they give away more beer than they sell! (We try to buy half of our beer from Avery for this reason, I recommend other Colorado climbers try to do this also).

Thanks to the BLM for continued support of Shelf Road as a climbing area.

There are definitely others that I didn't meet, so feel free to add their names to the thank you list.

It would be really cool to do this twice a year - maybe in the spring and in the fall? There are still a ton of excellent routes, some popular, some obscur, that could use an upgrade.
