Setting up an auto-belay outside?

Sup guyz?

I am semi-new to the climbing world and don't have many friends that climb. I am looking at purchasing an autobelay and setting it up off of trees outside. Has anyone else done this before? How would I set this up off of trees/boulders?

Thanx.

Research tope rope soloing, setting up an auto belay off a tree sounds pretty sketchy to me. Especially if you lack experience. The best thing to do would be to continue to search for partners, go to gyms even if they're far. Tons of gyms have meet up groups for new climbers. Sometimes you have to drive far to climb with someone, thats the way it goes

I self belay on TR all the time using my gri-gri. A TrueBlue auto belay is $2000 a gri-gri is $100. But if money isn't an issue I'll belay you for $1000.

Slightly off topic... In theory could an auto belay be mounted on the ground and allow you to sport climb (in a gym, not outside)? Obviously, if you fall you'll be lowered from your last clip automatically. Plus you would need to tie into the auto belay instead of a locking biner to pull rope through the biners. Also the stopping system would need to be reconfigured so the auto belay wouldn't "suck up" the end of the rope. But in theory would it work?

For those of you that haven't noticed the bolts on boulders thread yet, check that and their profile out before taking this one seriously.

I once saw some guys carrying two auto-belays into the Ouray Ice Park, honest to god.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
