Description 

This mountain gets its name from the sanctuary at the top, that receives many pilgrims along the year. There is also an observatory run by the Federal University of Minas Gerais. The mountain offers many boulders and some short climbs. The rock is itabirite, a laminated rock resulting from a mixture of quartz and hematite.

Getting There 

From Belo Horizonte, take BR-381 towards Caeté and follow the signs to Santuário Nossa Senhora da Piedade.
