Getting There

Take the climber's access trail to the water pipe, and walk right, past the First Buttress, to the base of the Second Buttress.

You can access Tough Situation and Classic Finger Crack from the water pipe by scrambling up a gully to a platform below the summit block. Or you can hike up to the top by taking a path just left of the First Buttress. Then head right and scramble down between the First and Second Buttress, and do a 3rd-class traverse over to the start of these routes; see photo.

Pine Tree Route begins just above the water pipe, just left of the gully between the Second and Third Buttress.

The fastest descent from the top is a rappel from the tree atop Pine Tree Route. The easiest walk-off is down a trail just left of the First Buttress.

Through the crux. Note that Brenda's right foot is still on the same foothold as in the previous photo.

Tough Situation 5.9+ 5c 17 VI 17 E1 5a  CO : Boulder Canyon : ... : Second Buttress
Go left and through the big roof just left of Classic Finger Crack. It's a great hand and finger crack climb that meets up right at the top of Classic Finger Crack...great toprope. It's rated 5.9 in the Rossiter book, but it's definitely 5.10 and much harder than Classic Finger Crack. The roof is really thin on feet, and the handcrack is good but slippery....[more]   Browse More Classics in CO
