Top roping a hacked out School Room Pillar.

Add Photo  Add Comment    Printer View

Description

This is the most prominent pillar in the School Room area. It is possibly slightly free hanging and most likely hacked out.

Location

This is in the middle of the School Room area. It is just to the right of the rocky, left-facing dihedral that delineates the easier climbs on the left from the harder ones on the right.

Protection

Screws or top rope off anchors.

Really wouldn't give this climb a WI5 grade. The first 30 feet or so of the pillar when it's fresh is steep and pushing WI5, but the rest of the climb is maybe WI4-. Great route, just not really that hard, and once it gets hacked out it's maybe a WI3+.

This climb varies in condition. At times, it is a WI5 to get started, since it can be one of those where you have no ice to armpit high, which can require trickery to get started, maybe even a figure 4 or 9. At other times when it touches down, it can be a WI3. FWIW, there is no WI3-5 rating available currently.
