The Schiara group is the most southerly massif of mountains in the Dolomites, sitting just north of Belluno (the southern entry point coming out of the Adriatic coastal Italian Plains). The group contains many via Ferrata and many shorter routes at lower altitudes, making early and late season climbing possible. However, it also has a huge west facing wall over 1000 meters high containing multiple hard routes (Burel – South West face) for those in search of a major undertaking.

Getting There Suggest change

Getting there: Most of the routes are accessed from the Alpini Hut. To get there drive from Belluno up to Case Bortot, then hike on path 501 for 3 hours to the hut. From that location you can approach Monte Schiara (45 min), Monte Burel (3 hours) and the Sperti bivouac below the Pala del Balcon towers (2 hours up the Ferrata Sperti).
