If you took out that girls name and inserted literally any well-known climbers name, it would still read exactly the same. This is just an example of how fucked climbing is..

Granted, there is no depth in the article, but may I kindly ask what she exactly said in that piece that is illustrative of just how "fucked climbing is?"

I know she can climb harder than I. I don't climb overhung 5.14 because it doesn't appeal to me and I couldn't if I tried.

What's "fucked" is the fact that sport climbing is taking precedent over the more commiting and extreme things being done in climbing.

Anyone can pre-clip and pre-rehearse a climb and then climb it on camera. Anyone can learn how to tie a figure 8 and climb bright plastic holds at any level.

But please tell me how great she is cause she's a world champion at pulling on small resin holds.

Anger management issues about a discipline of climbing that has been around since, I hazard a guess, before you were born? Oh yeah, and she is also a girl...

I don't see what's ignorant or short-sighted about the truth but to each their own.

And just because sport climbing has been around since "before I was born" makes it better? Using snake sheddings as condoms has been around since about 3000 years ago when it was traced back to Egyptian cultures. Should we use those instead of rubbers?

I "couldn't if I tried" because I don't have the urge to. But yes people do climb 5.14 because it's obviously been done..

Why do you care? Don't get me wrong, i'm not that impressed either. i would be more impressed by someone climbing southern belle than if a baby climbed 5.17. that being said, why waste your time and energy getting mad about it? if it doesn't inspire you, just don't pay attention, because it really isnt worth your time

I'm not jealous, only saddened. Regardless of what I can (or can't) climb doesn't bar me from expressing my opinion. Since the myriad of wise men have promptly dismissed my opinion because of whether I can climb a certain letter grade, I secede.

I still think that climbing has changed for the worse. But since everyone else, in their infinite wisdom, seem to think the opposite, I guess you're right. If you're the sheep I believe you to be, you'll gladly let others think for you.

Explain to me how, someone else's idea of fun and their personal pursuit to make a living at a sport they love translate into climbing changing for the worse? Has it changed your personal climbing experiences?

Nobody criticizes you for loving trad climbing, thats what you have decided to spend your time doing, thats your personal choice. So, why would you criticize someone else for spending their time doing the same sport as you, just in a slightly different discipline? It's a personal choice. She has found something she excels at and is making a living doing that, I don't believe that deserves the shaming you are giving it.

I dont agree with davis at all, but why would how hard he climbs have to do with anything? How much experience someone has sure, but if you climb harder it doesn't necessarily mean you have any idea what you're talking about.

She's an impressive female athlete. Redefining climbing as we all know it? Hmmm...

Lynn Hill redefined climbing for males and females 21 years ago. Steph Davis redefined female climbing with a free Salathe 10 years ago. Free soloed The Diamond. MSG is in the process of redefining female strength and speed in climbing capabilities.

Obviously my statement reflects my personal bias of what I define as groundbreaking climbing.

Now who will be the first female to free solo Astroman and Rostrum N Face in a day? Or RNWF of Halfdome? Who will be the female equivalent (or superior) of Alex Honnold?
