You can still go there for free and dump your trash or tip the portapotty, but only if you do it within two hours. Thanks for the link. Tough times... Hopefully that money will be put to bettering the park.

Ouch. For all the construction, what these folks are doing does serve to keep the hooliganism at bay....especially at night. I preferred the more natural setting but this will be the only way to make it safe for the masses and clean now that the road is so close to the rocks. I hear it was a nice place BITD when you had to hike two miles.
So the "best buy" annual passes to climb there will cost you $350. To break even with day pass prices, you'd have to climb there 70 DAYS in a year.
If I had to spend 20% of my life at Sand Rock, I think I'd probably kill myself. Maybe it's all part of a conspiracy to make the annual passes at the Gunks look like a good deal.
Get ready to join the de-evolution of the canyon men at Little River! Just read in the latest climbing rag that Gruenberg's chiseled route at the Canyons Unshackled Wall is an undisputed classic! Just think of all that flawless rock just waiting to be enhanced with a few drilled pockets and slots! Can hardly wait to move the party from Sandrock to Little River, you just can not have enough outside gyms to serve the masses.
The county could have started charging for camping and climbing before they tore the place up. Positive cash flow by spending very little money. Put up a gate and charge. Very simple. I don't want to know how much tax money they have wasted on this project. Whoever is calling the shots for the county has to be an idiot or is blinded by the dollars they are putting in their pockets. They haven't consulted the climbing community at all. They must be catering to the RC truck drivers is all I can figure. Through all this the climbing is still awesome at SR hopefully the county won't screw that up.

I am a little confused why the SCC or the Access Fund as not mentioned anything about this. Or maybe they have and I missed it. For the most part I do not have have a problem paying a responsible fee as long as there is no long time plant to weed out climbing all together

I just want to say this is the funniest thing I have read all week.
