Salewa Alp Trainer fit questions

I bought a pair of Alp Trainers to replace a pair of EMS hiking boots I've had forever. The EMS hikers fit me perfect! 16 mile peak bagging hike, no problem.. 60 pound backpacking trip no problem.. Too bad the soles came unglued from the boot. So I got me some Salewa Alp Trainers. A buddy recommended them and said the fit is comfy. I tried them on at a reputable shop and walked around in them long enough. I went back to Barkeater Cliff (about 1/2 hour hike) and got hot spots on my heels. I just got back from a backpacking/climbing trip and got a bad blister on my right heel. I hope the boots need to be broken in but who knows. I got about 20 miles on them.

Anyone have advice on what to do? Did anyone else have this problem with this boot?

It doesn't matter what fits your friend, only what fits you. Go someplace and be fitted

While I appreciate you taking time to reply.. Did you read the part I wrote "went to a reputable shop and walked around in them long enough"? The Mountaineer in KV has fitted me for runners, three pairs of mountaineering boots and ski boots. Those guys do a fantastic job. I think it's the boot. I've never owned boots where the heel is so stiff.

They have a blister guarantee. Take them back and get something else. I have two pairs of Salewas (Wildfire and Alp Trainer Gore-Tex). They fit me very well and I've never gotten a blister. I've also added Sol Conformable insoles to each. I use the Wildfire as my go to approach shoe and the Alp Trainer for Backpacking and Hiking in with climbing / sleeping gear - ie heavy loads. The stiff sole of the shoe is great and helps my feet when humping a lot of gear over rough country which is common in the sierra. It simply sounds like it doesn't fit or work for you. Salewa's policy will allow you to take them back.

I had the same problem, mine felt like a good fit but became very uncomfortable after extended wear. I think mine were to narrow and developed a hot spot on the side of my foot.

I ended up retiring mine to yard work.

I ordered some Hike Trainers and they pinched the ball of my right foot right out of the box, I just knew that they wouldn't work, they seemed a lot narrower than my Salewa mountaineering boots, which are super comfy.

I exchanged them for a pair of Firetail Evo Mids - and these are super comfy.

As stated previously; the boots have a no blister guarantee.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
