Tumbling fall on the approach pitch, hitting multiple ledges. Unroped and no helmet as stated in the KSL piece.

Bummer. Approachs to climbs can be hazardous.

I remember rapping that "1st" pitch and getting a nasty core shot pulling the ropes on the way down. When my partner came down the sheath got bunched up in her ATC, leaving nothing but the core strands! She let out a yell but reattached the device below the damaged section, gingerly rapping the last ~50 feet.

It's pretty low angle but a fall would be (clearly) nasty -- be careful out there and wear a helmet! That ain't Wingate down there.

4th fatal accident this year != 4th fatal climbing accident this year.

The other three deaths this year were drownings and base jumping...I think 2009 was the last fatal climbing accident where a climber was jugging a haul line on Touchstone which was fixed though a ProTraxion on p3 or 4...

And one of those other 4 deaths in the past 30 years was a boy scout going off the top of Angel's Landing around 10 years ago.
