Rumney Conditions?

I am(/was) planning on heading up to Rumney tonight, but I called Mountain Pines yesterday and they said that they just got 4" of snow. Can any locals shed some light on the conditions?

There will be snow on the ground, but many climbs will probably be drying up by Saturday afternoon. Waimea, Bonsai, many places at Orange Crush are steep enough that they're dry pretty much regardless. Be careful of icefall on approaches, particularly Parking Lot Wall and the Meadows.

Sunday looks like a great day to climb.

I would think Orange crush would be running like a garden hose? certainly will be pleanty of dry rock on sunday just doubtfull on the Orange Crush idea.

Thanks, that's what I figured. We mainly want to climb at Bonsai and Waimea anyways, so I guess we should be ok (and we're staying until Monday afternoon, so it's not the end of the world if Saturday isn't perfect).

Any recommendations on lodging? We'll probably stay at Mountain Pines tomorrow night, but we're arriving late tonight (and it's supposed to be raining, and they said that their bathroom is out-of-order), so we'd like to get a bed somewhere. We called Common Cafe and to our surprise, they said that they're no longer doing lodging.

Thanks again!

I am in the same boat as you Dan. I am hoping to drive out to Rumney tonight but was told of the snow on the ground and am a bit worries.

I was hoping to climb some 5.8s / 5.9s. Would anyone know if climbs of that grade will be open due to the snow or will only super overhung craziness be in a climbable condition?

It's nasty , wet and foggy in VT today I would bet however that there will be dry rock by sunday?

Cool man, maybe I'll see you there. I would imagine that the stuff on the right side of the Jimmy Cliff will be dry, given it's sun exposure. There are also a handful of 5.8s and 5.9s at Darth Vader that are overhanging enough that they might be dry (shouldn't have any snow, but not sure if they seep). The left side of 5.8 crag is decently sunny and vertical, so it might be ok as well. I've only been to Rumney a few times, so others might have better suggestions.

Is it hard to find partners in rumney. I just moved to Albany and have the week off and I am looking to climb there at least Monday and Tuesday. Maybe longer if the weather stays good. I am solid on 11s and want to get on 12a as well
