On Tuesday, 11/12/13, I climbed Dark Shadows to the top of the Mescalito. Before climbing it, I stashed my pack and a rope at the base of the rappels into the North Fork of Pine Creek Canyon, just 5 minutes uphill from the start of Dark Shadows. The idea was the climb Dark Shadows with one rope, and have the second rope waiting for us at the base of the rappels so that the first guy goes down on a single line, ties the second rope to the first, and the last guy pulls it up and raps on the double line, thus being able to retrieve a rope.
Questionable tactics aside, someone took the second rope. It was a pink Beal Ice Line (half rope). My hope is that this was just some uninformed hiker who spotted my pack and rope and thought he was cleaning up the canyon. I'm also hoping it wasn't a fellow climber who thought, "Sweet, free rope.)
If anyone knows anything, or happens to be the one who grabbed my rope, please let me know. Also, if you know any hiking website I could post this in that would be great as well.
Thanks,
Andrew
PS - Please don't think you are being helpful by giving me different descent beta, that is not the point of this thread. Thank you

That sucks bigtime, Andrew. Have you reached out to the folks at Summitpost.org? That is the only other site I could think of right now for that demographic. Also, for the climber demographic...posted on Supertopo yet?

Bummer man! I hope you find the rope. If you ever want to climb hit me up.
A friend of mine had a stashed pack taken from the base of a climb recently. She called the visitor center the next day and learned that it had been turned in to them by a hiker who had thought someone forgot it out there. Might want to give the VC a call if you haven't already. Good luck!
you douche! don't be leaving all this unsightly trash on all our routes! I know I only climb 5.6 and claim I climb 5.12, and this entitles me to steal peoples shit, and blab on about how everyone should climb like me... Ha! miss you brother hope the season is treating you well, and hope the karma gods lay a hand on the ones with sticky fingers. Cheers and good luck.
