A head's up for folks climbing The Young and the Rackless. We watched a bunch of big (i.e. fatal) rocks rumble down the gully between Blob and Bitty today. Turns out a party was rapping the route to the right of TYTR and the first person down was standing on a tabletop sized flake to untangle the rope when it collapsed out form under him. Nobody injured (except their packs and clothes,) but maybe keep an extra keen eye for looseness if climbing up there.
Man, that must have been quite the sight. How high up on the wall was that flake, is it obvious where the looseness is when approaching & staging below? I'm having trouble picturing it. Granted, Blob has only seen me a handful of times.
Sorry I can't be more specific. We were over near Bolt Cola when the flake launched. Apparently it was up on the cliff on the rappel route. Fell and took out a dead tree at the base before breaking up into smaller but still substantial pieces. Kind of surprised none reached the road. Although they may have been cleared by passersby before we descended later in the day. Anyway, packs at the base of the route got hit, so maybe stage away from the descent route if there are multiple parties present.
