Hi,
I just moved to Bozeman from the east, and I don't really know the area and surrounding states areas that well. Im stoked for skiing and ice, but this Thanksgiving I want to go somewhere for some rock. Im ok with driving 6-9 hours. and Im not really down to go to Indian Creek. Any Suggestions.

Thanks,
Mike

City o rocks would be cold. Vegas is usually good, at least in the sun. Smith can be ok, cold this week, was 67 last weekend. J-tree and points south.

Never been there but maybe Massacre Rocks in Idaho? Basalt will be warm if there is sun. We climbed on basalt down by St. George last christmas in the sun and it was perfect. Not much on MP about Massacre Rocks though. I think Utah will be pretty cold and possibly wet this Thanksgiving, including the Creek. People climb at the City of Rocks all winter as long as access isn't snowed in. Lots of south facing climbs and its not in canyons like SLC.

SLC is good if it's sunny (Little Cottonwood is best at 40 degrees and sunny). I've heard St. George, UT is nice in the winter.

I went to Castle Rocks (just outside of City of Rocks, ID) this January on a sunny and 40 degree day. Perfect. No wind is key.

Scorched Earth down the Gallatin Canyon, Allenspur in Livingston or head to Billings and hit up the Rim Rocks.

"...some south facing walls here often the warmest winter climbing areas in WY. If the day is fully sunny with no or very little wind you can expect a 20+degree F increase above the ambient temp near a south facing wall."

Thanks to Dennis Horning for this stuff.
