Rock routes? Sharks tooth, Hallet, Petit. Anybody have first hand knowledge?

I'm looking for a partner for Saturday btw.

Zowie was 100% dry last weekend. Though the descent was tricky, wet snow over running water.

I'm going up to Petit on Sunday. Although it may prove to be warm enough to climb on Hallett already.

I'm headed up Saturday to check out the conditions. Going to hike up to the base of Tyndall glacier, so I'll get a real good look at Hallet.

I was up in the Sky Pond Cirque last Sunday to do the Saber. Lots of snow on the approach, lake is still frozen, but the routes are completely dry. The snow was firm enough that no flotation was needed.

@ MarkC

I was up in the sky pond cirque Sunday and saw someone rappeling off the Saber. Was that you? If so, way to get after it!

Trail up to the Loch is dry, after that the snow starts. Lake of Glass is thawing and Sky Pond is still solid.

Hallett is similar, trail is wet but little snow up to Emerald Lake. Emerald lake is starting to thaw, after the tallus field your postholing to the base.

Trail to Notchtop was the most difficult to travel out of the three. Still tons of snow. @ treeline there is a drift 15 ft tall and 3 football fields wide. Lots of ski tracks up there.

I'll be up there Saturday. PM me if you want to get something done.

Hallet is good to go, still a lot of snow up to the base of the cliffs though. Great for glissading down though.

Did Petit Grepon today. It's good to go although the hike in has a fair amount of snow.

Anyone have any new info on the Notchtop trail? Still the hardest?

Ryan Kempf · · Boulder, CO · Joined Jul 2011 · Points: 371

Trails are drying out quickly with the recent heat. A lot of formations are only holding snow @ the base (main trails are dry), but not all.

Hallett is dry and in full swing, descent has minimal snow. Stay high on the climbers trail @ Emerald Lake, wouldn't want to skirt the lake with that much snow down low.

Air quality on Hallett was surprisingly good. Low lands were hazy, but the wind up in the cirque kept things clear.

Do you know how to get the Petit Grepon to yourself on the weekend?
Climb it when there is a 40% chance of afternoon storms predicted by NOAA.. Or on fathers day I guess?

No one up there climbing today! ?? unreal.. even the Saber was void of climbers..

Well here's yo beta photos..

Climbed Spearhead (Spear Me the Details) on 6/15. Trail to Black Lake/Spearhead was mostly dry with some sections of packed snow. The route was in good condition, with just a little running water on the 5.easy approach to Middle Earth and some on short sections of the 5.10. Chief's head looks to be in similar shape. As long as you don't mind some inconvenient wetness here and there, park season seams to be ON!

Diamond report anyone?

The road to the saber and petit has minimal snow on it with no need for traction for yo feets. Both formations are completely dry. Climbed sw corner on saber, and standard route on petit. Great fun!

Hey Ryan, Descent was totally dry except for a ~20ft snowfield at the bottom. We hiked off climbers right.

Diamond report anyone?

Pervertical yesterday. All dry on route. N. chimney had a fair bit of snow in it and may be better to rap it then hike down the north face as we did. Lots of snow there. Most of the face looks in great condition. Get some!

Went to Spearhead yesterday. Trail is in great shape with only a few patches of snow up higher by Black Lake. The Spearhead is dry and Birds of Fire looks completely dry. We did Spear Me and our friends did The Barb, otherwise, no other climbers in the entirety of Glacier Gorge!

McHenry's Peak in Glacier Gorge.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
