Red Rock with the fam

Going out to visit the in-laws next week in Henderson and want to check out Red Rock. Making a day trip with the wife and four kids and we would like to do a climb or two. Looks like the 1st and 2nd pullouts have good options, but many of the walls look like they could get pretty warm.

Looking for climbs in the 5.6 - 5.8 range sport or trad but preferably sport as the climbing is generally quicker and easier to set up top ropes. Don't mind a short to moderate hike out to climb (we like to hike), but the base area needs to be good for us to hang out. Also, would really like to climb on some "red rock."

We don't need to do tons of climbing. Often, we combine a nice hike with a climb or two out in Jtree or Holcomb Pinnacles.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Appropriately...The Family Crag mountainproject.com/v/famil… and the Cut Your Teeth Crag mountainproject.com/v/cut-y… Have fun.

Thanks for the suggestions. They both look good. The CYT crag looks fun if it's not too hot.

I am no expert on RR, but you might enjoy Neon Sunset and other climbs on the Magic Bus. Also, check out the Panty Wall - Panty Prow, Brief Encounter, etc... You will not find solitude on these walls but you will find closely spaced bolts and easy anchors for TRs.

Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely might be checking out Amusement Park. Sounds like it has good shade. Willow Springs looks like it has some shady areas as well. Going to warm up this coming week.

The Calico Basin crags should fit the bill pretty well, pretty easy access to some good easy sport and trad, plus you don't have to pay to enter the Conservation area proper.

Thanks for all the info. Climbed a couple of the 5.8's on an early morning Panty Wall run and Peaches out at Willow Springs the next afternoon with my 12 year old daughter. First experience on sandstone. Definitely different than Jtree rock. Can't wait to go back!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
