Recommended climbing destination for week long trip in Winter

Hey MP,

I am considering a trip somewhere in January and would like to see if anyone has some good climbing destination recommendations. I was originally planning on going to Thailand, but looks like it will have to be a shorter trip (about one week) and think that might be too short. I have already been to Potrero Chico which is a great place in winter. Any other suggestions. Not only looking for sport climbing...also into some Trad.

I did notice Rio De Janeiro which is first on my list as of now...lots of bigger climbs both sport and trad and in the city too! Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Dave

Cochise Stronghold, AZ.

We spent a week there in early Jan on our winter trip this year. Weather was perfect and the climbing was stellar!

Oman. Did a weeklong trip there in Feb. 2014 and it was a blast! Safe, exotic and with a lot of multi pitch climbing…and most importantly off the beaten path.

Consider Cayman Brac. climbcaymanbrac.com

You can get there in a day from Denver. Half a day if you take the red-eye. No trad climbing, but climbing at the Point is still a full-on adventure.

Thanks for the replies. I will check out the Caymanbrac stuff...looks like a good option too. As for the SPlatte...since I live there, it would be a bit of a stretch to say you can climb it all year round...but there are certainly days in winter that its doable. A better bet in Colorado is shelf road. Cheers!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
