recently moved to Ithaca looking for partners for PA bouldering, Rumney, Dacks, etc, etc

Moved to Ithaca last winter. Been bouldering a bunch at Rock Run and recently Sunfish Pond (check out this fantastic site/app/guide. Any psyched climbers in the Ithaca area regularly out bouldering in PA or taking weekend trips to areas like Rumney or Pawtuckaway? If so, send me a message. Also, if you're a climber and want to tag along with me to PA, respnd here. I'm out there every weekend more or less. I'm up to clip bolts, follow up a trad line, and especially to boulder. |

Hey Chuck, my girlfriend and I have been climbing at blue run for the last year and have taken some trips to the Dacks, which we are now convinced we are moving to. We have also recently been going down to sunfish pond/rockrun etc... We have a burly Organics crash pad and we have met a few climbers from the area that boulder as well. If you want to climb sometime send me a message. I only teach guitar 2 days a week so I am free Thursday through Monday. Please note that we are somewhat of noobs, I just finished my first solid year climbing and we have a lot to learn, but we are eager to as well. |

Sorry to hijack the thread, but Chad: how is Horseheads? You related to Matt Cowan? |
|
Also: hit me up if you want someone to climb with in the Dacks sometime (ice is near!) lemme know. |

Ben I am totally down to climb in the Dacks. It is by far my favorite place to go. We have recently started making some awesome friends in that are too so it will be nice to increase the circle. Message me if you want to tlalk about some climbing arrangements....and yes Matt Cowan is my younger brother and he nabbed his first V4 yesterday at Sunfish Pond. With that being said Horseheads isn't so bad. There are awesome crags and bouldering areas within an hour from here down in PA. There is Rock Run, Blue Run, Fern Gully,Sunfish Pond, Carbon Run, the list goes on. There are so many undiscovered rocks that it is nuts really. |

My wife and I recently moved to Ithaca from central PA. I went from a surprising amount of high-quality bouldering withing 15 minutes away to...well...Ithaca and my 45 in the garage. I've been to sunfish pond and did a few of the v4's and 5's but wasn't that impressed. If you know of some other areas with taller blocks I'd love to check it out. Otherwise I drive to the gunks/daks on most weekends. |
|
Hijacker #2 here! Sorry, but as an Elmira native, I felt it my duty. Good to see some activity from the Twin Tiers! If anyone ever has the urge to drive an extra 2-3 hours to the Gunks, give me a shout - I'm 45 min south. |

HEy BWice did you check out the Tower area, Carbon Run, Long Valley etc? I have only been climbing a year but I have been to plenty of places and the bouldering in the state game lands in leroy definitely rivals any thing that I have seen in the Dacks. If a widow maker is what you want, check out a few climbs at the Tower area of Sunfish. You can have a good 25+ft fall hauling over a crazy roof there if you want some thrill. Haha. I will even come spot you. What climbs did you do at Sunfish? |
|
gcap, I have yet to go to the Gunks but I am down for some ice climbing as soon as I save up for the gear. |
|
Cowan/Gcap: next time I am in the Finger Lakes region (even though my mom lives on Keuka lake...it doesn't happen too often), and the conditions are good, let's climb some ice. |
|
Ben, I'm down for some ice climbing for sure. I went once last year and did some stuff on top rope in Naples, but it was at midnight and we had to change boots and gear so it was a liitle cumbersome. I had a great time, because climbing that ice was awesome, but I definitely need to save up for some boots before I do much more of it. Haha |
