Real Climbers...

It appears there's a little MP vs Supertopo discussion going on these days, with an underlying assumption that these 2 forums are made up users of very different demographics, temperament, and climbing history. I thought it might be fun to test that hypothesis...

On ST, there is a recent thread of the same title as this. I'm wondering how different (or similar) the responses would be. I don't want to bias this too much so I'll leave it at that.

If you have not already seen the ST thread, how would you respond to this? No peeking.

So he freed El Cap that way? Or did he aid in that?

You need to include the rest of the OP to be fair, in my opinion.

Avery is really going to blow a gasket when he sees this unethical resurrection.

That isnt technically the op, just something the op quoted.

Her backstory would direct a followup post. That's what I mean.

Ok, ok. Below is the OP (the first paragraph is apparently a quote of someone else, presumably from another thread). I don't know the backstory.

HAHAHA, oh WBraun!

That sounds like it would bruise, and I can't have that! It would ruin my carefully cultivated tan...

And here, I thought that I would be a real climber when I meet up a few guys at the crag (at least 4) and they are all wearing LYCRA!!

Lycra's coming back guys...!

Beat me to it, but just sounds like some inside joke, followed by a bunch of blabber about lycra for the next couple pages. I lost interest pretty quick on that tread. But did down load a few good photos to hang around my shop ;)

Any who, I'll start. Real climbers chide the cam lovers on their love for cam & seeming lack of ability to place passive gear, and how we lead that route with a half rack of nuts bitd. Then they TRY to haggle with us about all the cams hanging on our harness :)

teece303..... Aid.

just like Tom Frost, Royal and the gang did back in the day.

Today when TT gets a new harness, the first thing to go are the leg-loops.

Seriously!?!? I was thinking that was a joke. Are they really used harnesses¿?

Sounds reasonable to me. I climbed Exum Direct as my first trad lead in a sling harness because my partner forgot his.

100% safe? Nothing is, it's climbing.

And no this was not in the 60s, it was in the last 5 years.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
