Raptor and migratory bird closures in Garden of the Gods (2015)

Hello Mountain Project,
Based on observed nesting behavior, we've posted closures for part of the East face of Grey Rock (AKA Kindergarten Rock)- please refer to the attached images. PLEASE NOTE: This closure includes the base of the North end of the East face, so climbers wishing to access routes on the South end of the East face should use the Southern approach (from the South Main parking lot).

We will be updating this thread with additional closures as more nesting behavior is observed- if our raptors and migratory follow past behavior, closures can be expected on the East face of North Gateway (although closures on the West face are not out of the question) and t a closure for the Tower of Babel should also be expected.

Thank you all for respecting these closures and our native wildlife.

Please refer to the below images for the current Grey Rock Closures:

We are still anticipating a one more closure on North Gateway but are waiting until our resident falcons select a location. We will update when this closure is in effect.

UPDATE:

Our falcons have selected a nesting site, so closures are now in effect for the WEST face of North gateway.

PLEASE NOTE that this nesting site is different than in years past, and so closures will be different for North Gateway than in years past.

This closure includes the Northern portion of the West face, as well as the summit ridge and East ledges (ledge system accessed from the top of the tourist gulley, near the kissing camels). Routes on the East face (excluding the ledge system described above) will remain open.

This closure may change based on observed behavior. If you encounter/observe any raptors that appear stressed, please respect the animal's space and alert park staff.

Please refer to the below images for closure details.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
