Rain in the Creek

At the risk of sounding too much like a desert noob (I am) how much does it have to rain before it becomes too risky to climb and possibly damage the rock? Thinking of heading to the Creek next week and the forecast is calling for light rain (1/10 of an inch or less) on a couple days. Would that shut things down, and if so, for how long?

Thanks for helping out a wannabe desert rat

I'm no desert rat, but this is what I've heard:

If it is actually 1/10" of rain (i.e. a brief sprinkling), it's probably good 24 hours after the rain finishes. For any real rain, 2 days if sun-exposed, 3 days if shaded.

A good rule of thumb, used by many I know, is to stay off the rock if the ground is wet at the base of the crag. Generally, a day of drying after a light rain will suffice. Just be sure it is dry ground.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
