Anyone run into any rabid bats or such? I know someone from Oracle warning me about rabid coyotes attacking people north of Mt. Lemmon.

here in CO, a department of health worker has told us that "if you dont know for sure an animal has had rabies vacc, assume it has rabies."

She was very serious. apparently its quite a problem up here this year. maybe there as well.

A large majority of bats carry rabies. It doesn't affect them the way it does humans. Bats are hosts for the virus, not always fatal. In humans if one is infected, there may be no symtoms for 2-3 years but once it does become active it's always fatal so any bite from any animal should be taken seriously.

I didn't think much of it when I was bitten by a bat until I started looking into it and had to have the treatment. The shots are only mildly painful like a bruise and they make you a bit rundown and sleepy. It's no longer the legendarily painful shots that people think.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
