Rab has a nice sale on right now - how is the fit compared to Marmot - Mtn Hardware - Patagonia etc? Looking at a pair of pants - I usually wear a large but sometimes an XL - Rab fit is ???

It's hard to say.. Depends on what. Some stuff is cut small and some stuff the cut is baggy.

I have a pair of 38 waist soft shell pants that fit loose. I got a jacket that fits on the loose side. On the other hand I've tried on plenty of jackets and mid layers that didn't come anywhere near fitting! I would definitely try on whatever you're going to buy.

Thanks Bill - that's the problem - no one close has them to try on - about like everything in Ohio - even REI has very limited stock here on the more serious gear lines. I'm used to the buy two and return one but it's still a hassle - and often a wash on money when you figure the extra shipping. I'll talk to REI and maybe have them order in both and see what works.

I would go larger than if I were you. Then again I'm 6'3" 265. My suits are 54. I lost 4 inches on my waist only to find out some XXL doesn't fit me in the shoulders.

I've never had a piece of RAB gear fit me. I'm 5'9" 175, 35 waist and a medium in just about all makes are great fits. RAB being British has that British cut! My buddy is thin and medium fits him perfect.

As an aside, my climbing partner is from Scotland and used to climb with Rab...awesome stories!

I love their synthetic thermal and soft-shell jackets, nice fit for me. I am 5"9 160 lb. Their Baltoro Guide,Plasma, and Xenon X Hoodie jackets are my favorites

I'm 6'1" 185 lbs, narrow waist, broad shoulders (typical climber build) with a positive ape index. I've had a couple different Rab jackets over the years, all in size L, and all have fit me well. A touch baggier in the stomach than I would prefer, but I'm pretty lean.

One day I'll put down the chocolate mousse cake and be able to say that about more than just Carhartt jackets! Haha..
