is it Firefox or my computer? when I quote someone it never gets it right and never gets the replies in the quote box. I see I'm not the only one.

Works ok for me with FF 18.0.1
What version are you using? Does quoting work with IE?

TRMasta,

I took the liberty of playing with this quote thing.

If you just do the text and not include the url, it comes out I think as you wanted. Take a peek. I just moved the to before the http:....

If you're quoting someone's post that ends in a url, add a space after the url to keep your reply from ending up in the quote box.

Yeah, the quote function on this site is pretty finicky; it's not just you. For some reason I was messing with different fixes on the quoting here, and this post will wind up being massively cheesetitted.

You cannot quote images, you cannot quote nests of previous quotes (i.e. if you quote this post, only my post will show up, and not your post that I'm quoting right here). As far as I know you cannot insert line breaks in quotes either; whether or not the person you are quoting uses paragraphs, they will never show up in your quotes.

I hate to say it, but rockclimbing.com's quote feature works better that this site's. Of course, rc's database, search function, and majority of users suck more than here, so I guess it evens out.

I personally hate the nests. I think it clutters the shit out of the conversations. Curious what others think about this.

Yeah, sometimes they serve a purpose for quick referral back to what you might be actually posting on, but the lack of nesting is probably the least of my complaints. Lack of images or line breaks is a bigger annoyance to me.

^^^ and I have no idea how Homer made it into that quote, but I for one welcome him.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
