MWV newbie here. I'm trying to rough out a plan for ice fest weekend and I have a short morning on Sunday since I need to be heading out of town by 10am.

Any ideas for a short alpine climb or somewhere to play around on an alpine ice/snow mix for a couple of hours? The most optimal situation would be a 1-2hr climb including the approach then a rap down. I really only have about 3 hours (6am-9am) but would like to get out a little.

Taking ice climbing for rock climbers and intro to steep WI as my Fri/Sat clinics. I have climbed moderate snow in the past.

Worst case, I might just wander up towards the winter LH trail then wander back down.

Willies slide in Crawford notch. Short approach, can climb for an hour or four, mixed snow and low angle/short bulge ice, easy descent trail accessible from multiple points on the slope. And the view across the notch is hard to beat...

Ditto on Willy's!

Could also walk down past Standard and Dracula to the "practice" climbs at Frankenstein. Not really alpine though!

If you're young and climb and move fast - Shoestring Gully certainly can be done in 3 hours car to car (I'm 54 and can do it just over that as a weekend climber primarily).

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
