I'll be in Xela, Guatemala Nov 30 - Dec 7. I would love to do some climbing at Cerro Quemado or any other local area. As I'm traveling by bicycle, I didn't bring a rope, but do have shoes, harness, reverso, some slings, carabiners, etc. If anyone is interested in getting out bouldering or sharing/renting some gear (if possible) let me know. I lead sport up to the mid 5.10s and follow whatever!

Hey! Me and a buddy are going to be around that area in Mid-Dec. I'm moving on north eventually to Potrero to meet up with some climber friends. Not sure if I'm going to bring a rope, but if we can get our hands on one, I'm down to check out some routes around there for sure. Hit me up!

Cullen - I leave the 7th, but if you get here before then, PM me! Otherwise, there is a small and friendly community of climbers here that you'll probably quickly meet. Equipment seems to be in somewhat short supply, so I'd say bring a rope if you can and are serious about getting out.

Hey there, I'm traveling alone though Guatemala right now, looking to be in Xela around the 10th or 11th for a week, but I'm flexible. Don't have a rope or draws but I brought along my shoes/harness/atc etc.

Josh, do you have some info about the local scene around Cerro Quemado? any contact info or places to meet up with people?

you can contact Quetzaltrekkers they are based in Xela, they have a rotating cast of volunteers some of them are climbers. Either way they offer some epic multi-day hikes from Xela to Lake Atitlan amongst other places

The Gimnasio Principal, next to the Minerva market, is a great placed to meet local climbers. People generally climb on the small wall/bouldering project there every weeknight 5pm - 7ish, are hella friendly, and generally know a lot about the Cerro Quemado routes. On Sundays folks usually go out to Cerro Quemado to climb/boulder alongside the evangelical christians who are busy singing hymns/doing exorcisms etc. You can also check out climbxela.com for some more info. Have fun!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
