Anyone know if the gate that leads to the boulder natural parking area is open? Last few times I've made the trip to Pway it was closed.

It should be open until it snows. It was open last weekend and the road was in pretty good shape all the way to the Round Pond parking. It is supposed to snow Friday night, but I doubt that will affect access.

Thanks man! What is the policy for it anyways? Last fall I went around this time of the year and it was closed and it was closed the spring before that in late April or so when I went.

I imagine that it is closed in spring to prevent damage due to mud. Also, part of the road is underwater until June (still passable in 2WD). If you see a ranger you could ask...except I don't know of anyone who has ever seen a ranger...ever.

Gate stays open until either first jaunt of snowy weather that actually effects the roads or until mid-late Nobember. It stays closed in spring until the mud hardens a bit to prevent vehicles from tearing up the road. If the road does get bad it seems like it's almost impossible to get DOT out there to level it without a few civilian complaints first. So that's why it opens at different times during spring but it usually should be open early May the latest unless the ranger just hasn't had time to evaluate the road. Alternative is always Horse Farm parking (Round Pond Road). It stays plowed all winter.

It was open today and the climbing was perfect for an overcast day.

you could just park at the horse farm if you're unsure or its closed. Its a pretty mellow walk down to round pond.

The gates are still open. We were out there today. As mentioned above they usually close them after the first snow. Enjoy.
