Some of these replies crack me up. Went to the RNJ for the first time in almost a year the other day and there was a route with a marker to write your input. Someone had put something along the lines of "sucky, and boring". The guy that set the route had read it and at least appeared to appreciate someones honesty. Right after he walks away some dude walked up (that didn't climb the route) and scratched it off and wrote "fun, different". LOL how I miss gym climbing.
Since when is everyone so worried about offending? Sometimes the truth hurts, suck it up butter cup.
I'm glad to know. And I think to some extent there's a fear from some members that they probably make mitakes a lot or engage in similar behaviors and don't want to see their names on here someday. But instead of correcting their behavior they feel it better to bad mouth the OP in order to attempt to establish "this aint cool here" kind of (poor) etiquette. IMO this belongs here. If you do your part as a climber you have nothing to fear, so save the hate for someone more deserving than the messenger. You know the saying, don't kill the messenger.
I think the reason behind the thread being started was the poor attitude/response by Erik in those emails. He obviously doesn't get it. At least, that's how I interpet it. Someone like that is dangerous and I definitely don't want to climb with them. I've met some climbers that I will never climb with again. And they didn't even do anything this bad. I agree the PSA is warranted.
