PowerBolts- SS

Hi all-

Just purchased some SS 2.25 inchers for some local hard granite. My understanding is that the hanger bearing on the sleeve contributes a significant portion of the shear capacity. I have used full length 5 pieces for many years, and note a difference between my new shorties and the the longer version. The blue compression bushing resides at the shear plane in the location of the hanger. At 12 lbf of torque (manufacturer's recommendation) I don't think the compression bushing will squish out to let the sleeve take the load. What thinkest ye?

Aren't SS 5 piece 25 foot pounds? Are the short ones less for some reason? I'm assuming these are the 1/2" version, i.e. 1/2" hole and 3/8th internal bolt. What type of hangers are you using and what size hole do they have. The hanger should sit in between the bolt head and blue compression sleeve with 3/8th hole hanger.

Gotcha, what is the best hanger to use with this bolt?

Fixe 3/8 SS hanger though I almost hesitate to recommend Fixe because he still sells non stainless stuff and the crap Cobra bolts. I am almost at the point of boycotting, but I think the heavy gauge hangers with the dimples on the back to help seat them are the best I've seen. Normal price $3 each, though I usually wait until they are on sale. He often has good deals, sometimes in combination with the PowerBolts. I use the 1/2" versions since I use a power drill.

As long as you use a torque wrench and get that 12lbf the plastic will squash up nicely. Been using the 2 1/4" ss power bolts as top anchors on our local granite for a while now and. I have yet to see a properly torqued one loosen up.

Here are the specs if you feel like nerding out.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.

Fixed Hardware: Bolts & Anchors
