Potential repair costs on mountain hard wear compressor

So this is my jacket, I bought it off my friend earlier this week for only 60 dollars in almost brand new condition. I tore a hole in it today

I plan on sending it in to mountain hardwear. This damage is not covered under warranty and I'll most likely be spending money on its repair. Has anybody had a similar experience and the knowledge to tell me what kind of price I can be expecting before I send it in? I figure the most extreme would be about $100, and even still I feel like that might be worth it. The total amount invested would then be 160 for a 260 dollar jacket. Still a good deal I think.

If you are nice and send along an equally nice note... MH will probably repair it without charge to you. Least that's been my exp...

Another option is just buy an iron-on fabric repair patch for $2. Even cheaper than shipping it back to MH.

Apply patch like sticker, hit it with a warm iron for 30 sec (or whatever the directions on the package say), and be done with it.

Patch it yourself. It will give your jacket character.

I see it this way...

1. Hardcore (but crappy looking, character giving) patch:
Tenacious Tape by McNett ($5)
Seam Grip by McNett ($6 )
Total: $11
*Jacket is no longer sellable

2. MH Repair (replaces panel looks new):
USPS: $12.60 or maybe even $5.60 if you get it in envelope.
Piece of paper w/ nice note: $0.01
Total: Best $5.61 (1/2 price of patch), worst $12.61 (same price)
*Jacket can be sold after use for $$$

Patches are great for non waterproof jackets or in the field repairs but it's just as easy to drop it off at the post office in the off season.

Are you sure this is the price range for MH repairs? If that's the case ill definitely send it in. However I do like the character giving idea, but having bought this recent and the damage only occurring sledding (not a good story) I think ill send it in this one time and patch it any time in the future. And now that I think about it more, it's definitely not worth an extreme amount of money.

Ok, I just realized you were only including shipping costs. I have to consider they may still straight up charge for the repair. I'll send it in and get a quote from email and decide from there. @MorganPatterson

Nylon patch and seam grip ... Or duct tape

If you use it alot and hard ... Itll get worn out anyways

Scuffs, rips, tears, ember burns, etc ...

Wear it all proudly

Def call them first. Most my gear gets duct taped mid-season and if it's bad or waterproof gear it gets sent back post season. I have always had incredible experiences with MH and Patagucci and never been charged to fix or replace anything. I sent in a MH shell once for velcro issues once and they just sent me a new coat saying they tested the gore-tex and it had worn out and therefore, here's a new jacket. Turns out, that Christmas, my parents got me the same jacket so I called MH to see what they could do and they just said pick something of equal value on the site so I got a new 0 deg sleeping bag instead. They were happy, I was happy. I've sent back my rubincon rider two season in a row now with melted/burned panels (couldnt possibly be anything other then my fuckup (well my gf in one case)) and both times they replaced the panel, restored the jacket and returned it without a fee and without question. I always include a note expressing my views on how great their products are and a recent exploit where their product made a real difference. I also always offer to pay for repair just call me before to confirm price. North Farce always charges for anything regardless if it's a seam or whatever. Never buy NF if you care about warranty servicing.

General rule is if it's fabric construction related (water proofness, lamination), seams, velcro, zippers busting, mfgt should replace it or fix for free.

I had called them earlier today. The lady at the desk said that I'd have to pay since its not warranty. Sounded like she was just going over the technical policies. She said that the warranty or repair department (implying she is sepreate from them and would not have knowledge of the charge) would give me a quote once they received the jacket. So if I consider what you're telling me and what the MH customer service lady said, it sounds like under strict policy I should pay for repairs because its not covered under warranty, but that the guys who do the warranty repairs are really chill about it. I'm just gonna send it in.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
