Is it possible to filter so that "what's new" only searches a group of forums that you're interested in?

"What's new" searches ALL forums. I know you can can look at "what's new" in specific forums - one at a time. Or in a group of favorite "areas".

But, for example, what if I was only interested in one region, gear, beginners, general climbing and trad climbing forums? Over on UKC Forums there's a "favorite forums" button and you can check off a selection of just the forums you want to view each time you visit.

If you visit any single forum through the forum list rather than by hitting the new post link for all, those posts in that forum are automatically sorted by date and time. So it seems that it already works this way. Or did you want something else? Oh, I see you want to be able to subscribe to only certain forums all at once.

I really prefer fewer forums myself and don't mind wading. But filtering out for sale posts was genius. So more filtering power would be great.

There you go. You stated what I was asking better than I did.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
