I will be in Portland for the holiday weekend and am looking for some nearby bouldering or sport climbing. Where would you go?

Ozone is right across the river in Washington outside of Washougal; there's a hornet nest you walk past that has is feisty and will probably get you once as you walk past, but the lines are longer (mostly mixed, but some pure sport) and pretty nice. Expect crowds.

Broughton sport climbs tend to be at least 5.10 and up.

Hopefully you'll have access to a car - the local crags require about a 20-45min drive, depending on where you are in Portland

The only bouldering of note in the area would be at Carver - a lot of it is kind of mossy, but there are some fun clean problems.
(note that you need to have a "membership" to climb at Carver. You can sign the waiver and pay the ~$8 at PRG or the Circuit, I believe)

For sport climbing, it kind of depends on what grades you're looking for. For stuff in the 5.7-5.10 range, the best option is probably Ozone, which is across the river in Washington.
If you're looking for the 5.11-5.12 range, then Broughton Bluff has a lot of good clean routes that are fully bolted. Carver does too.
Most of the easier stuff at Broughton or Carver require gear placements.

Rocky Butte is closer in, and most everything there can be toproped, but it tends to have occassional problems with litter, homeless folks, and freeway noise.

Thanks everyone! This should keep me plenty busy for the time I am there.

I was there last month- I never saw the nest, but I did get stung on the hike out one day!

OP, I'd definitely recommend Ozone as well, so many fun climbs, just make sure you have gear.

For Ozone the nest can be avoided by parking at the second lot and hiking in from the east side (Mordor Wall area). Its an easy descent into Ozone as the trail is well maintained. I have not had issue with the bees personally at Ozone but did manage to get stung 4 times on Monday whilst bouldering at the Lost City.

Also if its any help; Ozone has several routes that are true sport lines or can be lead all on bolts. There is a 5.8, 5.6, a few 5.9's and 5.10s, and some harder lines as well. Granted most of Ozone is bolt/trad a fair amount is true sport or can be safetly done on all bolts.

Cheers
Rob
