i've never used a double ledge before and am wondering how crucial the shark fin partition is. is it merely for personal space, or is it a critical load-bearing piece?

i've always used singles cause of sag and i dont like to share:) but the design of modern ledges is almost too good to be true. now i'm seeing spreader bars as a way of less sag and more space unless fins need to always be tight.

thanks for any help.

the shark fin doesn't carry the load.

While not a load bearing piece, it is however very vital when sharing a ledge. When both people lay down the ledge will sag in the middle and you will spend the whole night fighting the slip into your partner. Even with the spreader bar the ledge is still prone to sag, so say not to homo rubbin and but the fin up! Now I do take them down when just hanging on the ledge cooking dinner, drinking beer or just hanging out, but the minute I lay down to sleep the fin is up and i have my own space. Now if the girl friend is with me then the fins are down but that is for another topic.
