Lame.

So, what happens to all of the hardware people have put up in a situation like this?

Im assuming we loose it all. They start blasting this friday.

from the landowners.........

Paradise on the Brazos will officially close down climbing & tent camping permanently @ the end of today. We have decided to go another direction after 13 years. We have a bunch of people to thank for making climbing happen @ POB. A big thanks to David & Carol Michael for having the vision & putting in the first climbs & a bunch of hard work. Thanks to the late Jimmy Forrester & the late Kirk Holiday for all they did. Thanks to Thomas & Shana Martin, Keith Reed, Mark Pell, Mark Hyde, Ryan Ray, Mark Maddy & James Siros for the website. Thanks to all the people I left out & to the honest climbers. It's been a great 13 years & have made a bunch of friends in the climbing community but the time has come to shut it down. Times change & people change. Please spread the word, don't want anyone to drive out here & have to be turned away. Will put up no trespassing signs & anyone attempting to go back there will be dealt with accordingly. Thanks.

The reason we are closing POB to climbing & tent camping is we have leased our ranch to a large mining Company & they will be mining limestone & it will turn into a large quarry. The Company doesn't want anyone in there because they will be blasting & it will loosen the rock. Hope that answers some questions.

And the rest of us should thank the Access fund and assorted climbers coalitions for all the work they do to save climing areas from disasters like this. Face it folks, it can be out of our hands at times when dealt a surprise decision. Look at how much of West Virginia and other southeastern states have been crushed, burnt, blown up and plowed over all for the sake of mineral rights. Keep watching and donating to Access Fund to save what they can , wherever they can across America for nature and for those who treasure our land for beauty resources over cash ones.

Looks like $$$ outweighed any concerns for time/material/sweat equity investments made by climbers

The Access Fund Did attempt to help a year or so ago. This crag has had access issues before. Its been closed and reopened a couple of times. The land has been for sale for a number of years now, and the asking price was far far out of reach for the climbing community and access fund combined.

I assume that due to lack of interest in buyers for the place, that the owners resorted to leasing the land out to the mining company instead. I bet once the quarrying is done, then they will have a much more difficult time selling the land.

There were a number of climbers who invested alot of their personal money developing this place. Its ashame to see it closed as it was the closest limestone craig to the Dallas Fort Worth area.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
