Anyone have any information on PMI ropes in general? Or specifically about the PMI Synergy? I am thinking about purchasing one?

Thanks

Mac,

I bought the PMI "Spire", 10mm 60m bi-color rope two seasons ago. The rope has a fairly soft catch when on lead and taking falls. It does okay in top-rope but I have a feeling that the soft catch is due to a lot of stretch... whenever I TR someone, if they take at all the rope stretches quite a bit. Not really an issue but worth mentioning.

I find the sheath to be VERY durable, it shows almost no signs of wear thus far, and it has a LOT of mileage on it, trad, sport, TR and mixed between those disciplines. The rope is kind of stiff and tends to get twisted up from time to time for no apparent reason. Even after doing a full length hang, and rapping on it ect it seems to just be twisty at times.

The rope is pretty good but for the money, I should have bought a BlueWater or Edelwiess or similar on sale. The handling when clipping, tieing knots, ect leaves something to be desired.

I don't have any info on the Synergy.

I've had a pair of PMI Verglas for three years. I only have good things to say about them.

I had a serious problem with a new PMI rope once and the company basically told me to shove it so I've never bought another one of their products.

That was a long time ago so I hope their ropes, and customer service, have improved since then.

@mac The PMI Synergy rope is a great rope! It has a thicker sheath on a skinny line so it keeps the strength high and the weight low. For more info on it you should check out Trango , the official distributor of PMI Dynamic Ropes in the US. You can also download an info sheet on all PMI Dynamic ropes here.

@Ed I'm sorry you had a bad experience with us! If there's anything we can do to help you in the future, please let us know. We'd love to have you as a PMI customer again! You can contact me directly at jwyderko@pmirope.com or our customer service department at custserv@pmirope.com if there's anything we can help you with.

Their statics are awesome.

I have now experience with dynamics, but they have a good reputation.

I have several PMI ropes, including 2 synergy's in particular, and have nothing but good things to say about them. My 9.9 Synergy ropes (a 60m & 70m) have been fantastic. They handle well, are fairly lightweight, and seem very durable, though I have only had them for ~ 9 months now.

I also have a 10.3mm PMI rope (the Arete???) that is a good beater rope.

I also have had a pair of their Verglas double/twin ropes, maybe 8.1mm I think, for a few years now and am extremely impressed with them. I have used them as both doubles and twins and they work great and are very durable for 8.1's.

In contrast to Ed's experience above, I had great interactions with their customer service. Of course, it was never in regards to problems with their product so maybe that is significant.

I will certainly purchase other PMI ropes in the future based on my many positive experiences with them in the past.
