Pissing On His Grave

This route is called Pissing on his Grave, apparently put up a year after Garcia died.

FA: Pete Verchick & can't recall … likely Kevin C. or Eric D., maybe BobNob, as all these routes were done ground up, which takes two to tango.
c. 8/9/95, thus the name of this route and its more appreciated friend to the left. Both established, if memory serves, the week of his death.

The names assigned to this route and it's neighbor are tasteless and tactless. It does not matter who it is that died, let alone one of the most influential musicians in history (think of the work outside the grateful dead in particular). It is just plain disrespectful to do such things. Climbers of the caliber that established these routes should display more character than this. Disappointing.

It's hilarious that some people take the name of these routes so personally. You certainly have a right to like the Dead, and Pete certainly has a right to name the route whatever he wants.

Joel, good point and I agree. I just had to to make a comment here, whether it involved Garcia or any other talented musician. I just thought the naming was disrespectful. After all, its just a climbing route, no harm done..... Good work to the FA's.
