Curious if anyone here has had experience photographing climbers on either of these 2 Yosemite classics. Is there any way to hike to the top and rappel into position, or would I be tasked with jummaring up a rope placed by my climber?
Any tips on multi-pitch photography or access to these 2 routes would be greatly appreciated.
You can hike to the top of the Cookie from the left side. There is some poison oak. A short rappel brings you to the top of the money pitch on Twilight Zone. Don't knock anything down on the hordes of people who will be at the base of Outer Limits.
Mental Block you've got to lead up ahead of your subject.
I was thinking of hiking to the top of Outer Limits but Jim Thornburg said he had tried that once and said it was one of the sketchiest things he'd ever done, with lots of poison oak and quite dangerous. I'll just have to get myself up some easier routes next to these 2 climbs I think
Is the 2nd pitch the money pitch on Twilight Zone?
Have not photographed, but I did lead TZ (great climb!). I would say best option to photograph the money pitch (2nd), is to climb Elevator Shaft (5.8 chimney). And there is a two bolt anchor up there here you can anchor your rope for photos. TZ is about 20ft towards the road from where elevator shaft tops out. That one is also super fun, for a chimney especially.
