Description Suggest change

The Pelmo massif juts out of the valleys as a dual summit structure visible from throughout the south eastern dolomites. It has two main summits separated by a deep cleft – Mt Pelmo and Pelmetto. Most of the climbs (with the exception of the normal route – which is the commonly used descent) are a complex mix of rock and ice requiring diverse mountaineering skills.

Getting There Suggest change

The mountain complex is either approached from the South East or the north side. To get to the SE side, drive south from Cortina on road 51 to the Village of Borca di Cadore. From there head west south west towards Rifugio Venezia de Luca hut and begin walking from the car park on path 470. To get to the north face from Cortina requires significantly more driving (not longer distance as much as more switchbacks and time). Exit Cortina towards Passo Falzerego but then as you head up out of the valley about 10 km turn south west towards Passo Giau. Cross this pass and head down the other side until you come to the town of Selva Di Cadore (just past the junction for Arraba and Caprile). At Selva di Cadore turn south east (left if coming down hill)onto road 251 and continue a few kilometers past Pescul – to either Camping Cadore or a bit further to path 467 which is located at the pair of switch backs just before the road bends around and heads west again. Hike from either of these locations up to Rigugio Citta di Fiume which is your starting point for the North face.
