Worth taking a look at the Piton Hybrid as well. $100 and change on line.

Was looking at getting a backup to my R1 Hoody (1st generation!), it has served me very well but starting to show its age. The newer versions of the R1 just aren't the same, the thumb loops now look like an afterthought with that thick turnback/seam in the middle of your palm.
Patagonia had come out with the Cap 4 hoody, but they seem to be discontinuing it (or getting rid of it for summer).

I'm trying to find a deal on the Piton Hybrid, if the fit is similar, I'll be a happy man again, too bad it's a full zip.

If you want a wool version, I've seen that Smartwool makes one. It's a little pricey though.

Marmot Thermo hoody is a nice alternative to R1.

Here is an article describing it:

Also worth checking out is the Pata Cap 4 Hoody

Pata Cap4 Hoody

It's like an R1 Hoody "Light" - I have both the R1 and the Cap 4 Hoody and find the slightly lighter Cap 4 to be a wider range piece for ROCK climbing. I also like the centered zipper on the Cap 4 Hoody. Don't Get me wrong, I GET why the R1 has the offset zipper but for everyday use, the offset zipper is a PITA.

You want a Medium. I'm, 185 and 6' and wear Pata Large in almost everything including the R1.

I would think this MEC product is closer to the R1 hoody than either the T2/T3 hoodies:

For some time now I've been thinking about getting one for winter sport climbing (20-40 F), R1 as base layer plus down jacket when belaying. As I'm from europe and can't try for a proper sizing I've looked up some comments on various US stores. Most of the comments suggest M/L, what do you think?
I'm 6', 40-41" chest, 32" waist and with very long arms so Patagonia is my prefered manufacturer :). For comparison I've Northwall softshell (snug under arms, but fine) and Super Alpine Jacket (has some room for layering) both in Medium and the sleeves are perfect.
