Come to the Eastern premiere of Pat Ament's new film, "THE DISCIPLES OF GILL"!

Legendary climber Pat Ament is coming to the NY/NJ area at the end of April/beginning of May. Pat's new film, "The Disciples of Gill," is getting rave reviews. The film features John Gill – the greatest boulderer of all time.

If you are a climber, boulderer, hiker, love the outdoors, if you have an interest in climbing history, if you like merely to be inspired, if you want to see a work of art, this is the night, this is the show! A MUST SEE !!!!!

Don't miss this film. It is one of the best you'll see on climbing, a tender, beautiful chronicle of the golden age of American bouldering. Climbing Magazine editor, Matt Samet calls this film, "one of the most splendid and beautiful meditations on climbing I have ever seen. It has made me a lifelong Pat Ament fan."

Pat Ament, the author of "Master of Rock," and who Jim McCarthy calls the "poet-laureate of American mountaineering", will be at the following locations:

* Thursday, April 29, at 8pm — $10 admission
The Gravity Vault, in Chatham, NJ.
* Friday, April 30, 8pm — $10 admission
The Cliffs of Valhalla, in Valhalla, NY.
* Saturday, May 1, 8pm — free admission
the classic Rock and Snow, in New Paltz, NY.
* Monday, May 3rd, 8pm — $10 admission
Brooklyn Boulders, in Brooklyn, NY.

Bump for the East Coast shows, which are this week.

There's a brief bit in The Colorado Daily about the movie, published just before the show at Neptune's:

Here are two "reviews" from the California showings:

I saw Pat last night at Stanford. I was very inspired. This documentary story telling has fantastic footage and interviews. Its a very real, touching look at a sport that was 30-40 years ahead of its time.

I kept trying to figure out who was doing the background music. It sounded like Dylan lyrics but with Johnny cash's voice. Turns out it was Pat. Quite the artist.

---------------------------------------------------

Pat's video was almost like a time machine to me... the images of Gill doing those boulder problems were truly amazing, and the stories of the "disciples" dislodged memories of heard rumors of a group of extraordinary boulderers, like Jim Holloway. It was wonderful to see them in their prime, from a period in the history of climbing when the tribes of climbers had little contact with each other.

Pat's narrative technique worked well, it was story telling... generation to generation, in the most gentle way from father to daughter. Then the story told from the interviewers to the audience, which was another generation to generation communication.

Thanks to ... Pat for putting his creative energy into this video and taking it on the road.

Anybody know if this will be shown again in Colorado? Hopefully somewhere down towards the Springs/Pueblo?

A final bump---the Rock and Snow show is tomorrow night.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
