I'll be in Chamonix from June 27 - July 27 this summer. I have a friend joining me for the final week but am looking for climbing partners for the first 3 weeks of the trip. I'm looking to do as many alpine routes as possible. I climb in the WI/AI4 and easy 5.11 range and will drag to France all the group gear that would be needed to do these routes. I'm renting a studio apartment a few blocks away from the Midi tram for the month (1 BR, kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc.) and crashing with me is an option. Basically, if you can get yourself to Cham you'll have a partner, place to sleep, and a bunch of gear ready to go! Bonus points if you speak French, because I definitely don't. PM me with questions or interest.

This sounds sweet! I wish I didn't already have a trip planned or I for sure would be jumping on this. Good luck with finding a partner!

I will be in Italy until late June and then perhaps in Corsica climbing, so I may be able to come from there. I'll keep you posted on my plans, but I don't speak French haha...decent Italian and Spanish.

Too bad our schedules do not overlap. I am looking for a partner for the first half of June (6/4/ - 6/14).

Which place are you renting?

I'm renting a place on the Promenade Marie Paradis, about 3 or 4 blocks from the Midi Tram.

Hi Sam,

Any thoughts on the routes you may be thinking about? I have been to Champ 4 times and would consider a 5th, though I have a couple of things to juggle to make your dates work.

Don't worry about speaking French as English speakers are plentiful as is patience by most locals.

If you want to send me a PM about your itinerary and goals, I would be glad to share my objectives.

Best of luck,

Michael

I found the rental on airbnb.com - awesome site that I am just now learning about.

Airbnb is the shit.....think I've used it around 15 times all over the world, got a 2 bedroom apartment overlooking the Mediterranean in Mallorca a couple years ago for $80/night, among tons of other great deals. My buddy who lives near Fenway Park is getting $400/night for his apartment on weekends there...all they have to do is go away haha. Never get hotels again!

Hi Sam,

I will be in the Chamonix area June 23-30 hiking and possibly mountaineering with my fiancé. After she leaves I might be psyched to do some alpine rock climbing for 2-3 days. I can lead 5.10 trad, 5.11 on a good day. I have a lot of experience and am safe and fun to climb with.

I got one through Air BNB.

I crashed here and really recommend it. A bit noisy from being right above Monkey Bar, but... well... I considered proximity to the best expat bar in town to be a perk. It was a little cramped with my partner and I and all our stuff laid out to dry, but the price was impossible to beat. Sylvie and Patrick were great hosts.

Hi Sam,

American living in Germany here and have spent a reasonable amount of time climbing/skiing in Chamonix. My wife and I will be in Cham the week after 7/4 and would be up for some rock work if you dont mind moving as a group of 3.

We dont have any glacier experience but do have some avalance/intermediate snow training and can trad to 5.10a and will bring a full rock rack. We are in great physical shape as well. Let me know if youre interested for a day or two. If not we were already planning on flying solo, so no worries.

Either way, you should hit up the Leanne and Hilton at The Schoolhouse hostel 10 minutes down the road from you in Les Houches. URL: theschoolhousechamonix.com/

That place has a very similar feel to the GTNP Climber's Ranch as it attracts a lot of mountaineer type people, some of which are looking for partners.

Let me know if you are interested and if there are any other questions I can answer for you.
