Parnter(s) for St George/ Mesquite Area
|
Hi- I will be in St George Nov 7-8 for work and looking to stick around and climb Sat 9th in the area. Open to suggestions- have heard Utah Hills are worth checking out but can't find any info on the site. Also interested in the Woodbury Road Crags. I plan to head to Red Rocks for Sunday |

St. George Climbing
I have most of the local areas detailed in the above link. Depends what you want. Utah Hills (including Woodbury) offers limestone and "chert" sport climbing. The sunniest spot is Solstice Wall and appears to be in your climbing range. My favorite local crag is the Underworld, basalt crack climbing. Zen Wall is another favorite that gets a lot of sun. Just now cold enough to start climbing at either of those locations really. Snow Canyon offers several multi-pitch classics, Living on the Edge, etc. I put in quite a few new multi pitch crack climbs in Padre Canyon. 1000's of sport climbs, a few good crack climbs. Enjoy your trip. |

Lyn, I don't know what kind of climbing you are looking for. I have spent some time in St. George, and have had a difficult time finding a partner. That said, I often went to Black Rocks (morning sun) and usually found someone out there to climb with. It is sunny short sport routes with easy access. Most are in the 9-10 range. The most popular cliff is Chuckawalla wall (afternoon sun)but the steep soft rock that has seen so much traffic never inspired me too much. If no one was at black rocks, I would boulder at Moe's valley. Good luck! |

Dow- thanks for all the information you have posted. Makes me want to go back to St. George and climb again. |
