I was unsure if i should put this in the bouldering section or not. I noticed that there was only one post there; so I put it in the general climbing section in hopes of getting a faster response.

I am traveling on a plane in a few weeks. I will be having some down time and was hoping to do some bouldering. Can I check a crash pad in as luggage? If so, is there an extra fee for bringing the pad?

I've done it for years. If you are taking two, duck tape them together so you can claim them as one piece. Some airlines will put them in a large clear plastic bag for you so the straps don't get caught. You might have to sign a release form saying that if they get trashed it's not their fault.

This is the third thread in a row from 2006 you have revived.

Are you seeking out the oldest threads you can find?

For the record, it’s probably cheaper to rent a pad from the local gym than pay the extra airline fees.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
