ME:

Asheville-based climber turned teacher on summer roadtrip adventure to the pacific NW. 8 yrs of climbing everywhere, with a penchant for long trad moderates in beautiful locations and an interest in safe climbing. I have tons of gear and climb 5.10.

The Trip:

July 2 - 4ish Badlands, Custer state park, Devils Tower
July 5 - 8 ish Jackson, WY, Tetons, etc
July 9 - 11 ish MT (Boseman, Missoula?)
July 12 - 18 Vancouver (Squamish, I have a friend joining me)
July 19 - 20 AMGA SPI exam in Levenworth, WA
July 21 - 22 climb near levenworth?
July 22 - 6th of Aug...

...seattle/portland/pacific coast/whitewater canoing a class III/IV river/ smith rock/big mountains/backpacking/city of rocks, ID/back thru jackson/ ... ?

Ideas?

I need partners for a number of these areas, and I'd gladly stay longer or shorter various places to match people's schelules, or join you for a biking trek or high-altitude backpacking trip. But what to do/where to go those last weeks of July/Aug? Is it really too hot in Oregon? should I double back up to Canada, or do some mountaineering? (dunno if I have the right gear for this..) I could backpack the coast for a while... I'd love to meet some open-boaters and get down a big, western river. I have friends in City of rocks the 31st through the 2nd, will that be crushingly hot? I could double back through the Tetons to chase altitude, if I must. . .

respond here with ideas, itineraries, routes, partners.

I hear there's good potential for new sport routes at Beacon Rock.

Late July, at least you can focus on WA (and not OR) for alpine outings. But then, there's so much to choose from...

EricAndLucie have a great page. Once, you get some idea of what to do, go & buy "Select Climbs in North Cascades" by Nelson and Potterfield (2 vol's). Most of the stuff below is on summitpost too.
some random ideas based on what I liked...

-Prusik Peak, Stanely-Burgner (III 5.9+)
-Dragontail Peak, Backbone Ridge w. Fin Direct (IV 5.9) and/or (not as good) Serpentine Ridge (IV 5.8)
-Outer Space (III 5.9) & Orbit (III 5.8) on Snow Creek Wall in Leavenworth (cragging)
-N. Ridge of Stuart (III 5.9)
-Mt. Triumph's NE Ridge (III 5.7) scenic!
-Inspiration Peak, E. Ridge (IV 5.9) ditto.
-alpine cragging at WA Pass area/Liberty Bell group (stuff from grade II to V on mostly great rock & w. short approaches)
-Much of Darrington area classics are probably not accessible as of now due to road damage

check cascadeclimbers.com for TR's, latest conditions, partners etc.
