Description Suggest change

Pacific Wall is an isolated crag on the north east side of Okinawa near the town of Aha. Has sort of a remote feel to it. Some great routes that start on those ledge above the ocean too. A great place of you're looking for a few easy routes too. Head further north and you have great swimming hole complete with a water fall you can crawl through. You can also follow the river all the way back too. Require negotiating a couple of small waterfalls, almost feels like canyoneering. A nice way to spend a hot afternoon after Pacific wall. (The wall gets really hot in summer, definitely a winter place.)

Getting There Suggest change

Getting North - Option 1:
Take the expressway to Nago as if you were heading to Zatsun or Hedo.
Continue north on Hwy 58, and roughly 20 km north of Motobu turn right at Shioya Bay (331 is the main road, but 9 is a shortcut).
Turn left onto Hwy 70 once you get to the East side of the island.
Continue north-east and follow remaining directions below.
(this took us less than 2 hours from the Ishikawa IC)
Getting North - Option 2:
Take the expressway north and take the Ginoza IC.
Drive east until you hit Hwy 329 and turn left (or north).
A few km's past Camp Schwab, turn right on 331and continue along the coast.
In Higashi Village Hwy 331 turns left but you want to stay on the coastal road, which is Hwy 70.
Continue north-east and follow remaining directions below.

Continue on Hwy 70 towards Aha Dam. You will see a sign for the dam turnoff (on left) ~4km before the town of Aha.
Aha has a little market on the main road to grab any forgotten necessities.
Turn right 1/2 km after the Dam turnoff (you will see a water-pump (hanging hose) on the right side of the road).
Next to the pump is a gate with a sign written in Japanese.
Open the gate and drive in; the sign ask you to close the gate after driving in.
Follow the pavement till it end. (~1km)
When the pavement ends, continue another 100ft on the red clay and you'll find a large open area to park.
Some clearance is required (lowriders will bottom out)
Some people camp here too.
Hiking directions:
Park and continue towards the ocean.
Turn right at the fence (if you turn left, you would head back towards the road you came in on).
Follow the fence-path until you hit the corner. A gate will be on your left; don't take it.
Turn right and walk 15 feet. Jump over the fence on your left where you see a path the fence posts bent down.
(Side adventure: continue along this fence-path, go down/up/and down again and you will find yourself on top of a 150' waterfall.)
Continue to follow the trail along the ridge line.
A moon shaped beach will appear on both sides.
The trail eventually lead to a third class descent with fixed ropes. (also the trail is clay so it can be slippery when it rains, but Not hard, fisherman do it with ice boxes and poles.)
Keep descending until you are standing on top of black solid stone.
While facing the ocean, head right along the edge of the cliff until you can't go any further. (you will see bolts)
Below you will be two 5.6ish slab routes and access to the bottom.
Just to the left (over the ocean) is Barb's Birthday route; one of the best 5.10's on Okinawa.
Two other routes just a bit left again. One 5.9 the other 5.7ish.
The 5.7 starts on a ledge about 40 ft down and 40 ft above the ocean.
