I am new to the area and am looking for climbing areas this summer. The catch is that I am looking for something that is relatively close to my location in Halifax. I am not particular and am even interested in scouting out something and cleaning it up. So, please let me know if you know of anything, have been out hiking in the area and spied something with a bit of potential, or any general ideas/concerns!

Thanks, and any response will be greatly appreciated. Happy climbing!

Chickies, Mount Gretna and Safe Harbor are nearish to you. PM user "The Stoned Master", I think he lives out your way and would be the man to help you out.

Boxcar rocks near tower city is a good bet for you, probably about a half hour or forty minutes away. There's a bunch of other stuff up on i-81 as well. I'm from Millersburg orginally, and still spend maybe a weekend a month in northern dauphin county. If you'd like to get out sometime let me know. Also as Larry said there are the lancaster/lebanon area crags and boulderfields. There's also a few limited boulders on the Appalachian Trail at Clarke's Ferry Bridge, and i think Hawk Rock on the AT on the other side of the river is climbable as well. It really depends on what you're after. You'll have to drive to get quality climbing, but there are a few things close by.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
