Frame three shows the words HONG/EGG being chipped into the boulder!!! WTF!!!!

Truly sad times...even worse is that this seems acceptable to some, even justified or NEEDED.

Completely Wrong. To think somebody took the time to sit and chisel this is disturbing. It must of happened at night or in the dead of winter.

To the Chiseler(s): If you need something productive to do with your time, participate in trash cleanup along the road. Maybe collect some cans and give the proceeds to the ASCA. There are many things that the climbing community will benefit from. This act of vandalism is not one of them.

how would you fix this? that arrow looks super deep.

I hope no one else saw them doing this and didn't stop it. Thats just as bad as the actual chiseling.

Well it went pretty good I patched the arrows but still need to patch the words hong and egg.
Looks much better and with a little weathering you will never notice it.
Some guy came down the trail and could not pick out the arrows at all, but is was a little dark.

I got pics but I am trying to remember how to post them.

I cant believe this happened! I thought the worst thing I would ever see was the glued on holds in provo canyon.

Mike, I saw these yesterday and thought that maybe when everyone got together and built the new trail to the egg this was somehow part of it. I'm really glad that it wasn't.

Good job on fixing this Mike, chipping of any kind is not acceptable, chipping on a small boulder on a trail may not seem (to the un-initiated) to be a big deal, but it really makes us look bad - please stop, whoever you are.

Wow, this is rather disappointing. Good on ya Mike for the clean up. Besides being an eyesore this could also be considered a crime. The Egg and environs are on forest land. As such, this could be considered destruction of natural resources.

Any ideas who would do this kind of thing?
I would like to have a talk with them.

Well Problem solved.
We decided it was better to flip the boulder over rather than leave it patched.

Me, my wife Kandice and Jeff Porucznik went up there today and rolled all 3 + tons of that big damn boulder right on its chiseled face.

Just a small slca project, But it needed to be done.

Sheees! Pretty big leverage stick eh?
