Hey Guys,

I’m looking for some Yosemite locals or close to locals who can give me some good information about the area. I’ll be going there this summer for the first time, I only have a quick week, and I’ll possibly be there by myself, so if you can help I’d love to get some information.

1.Are there any good Easy Solo Routes in the area, Like 5+ to 5.6?

2.If I only have one day with a guide or a partner where should I climb?

3.Where can I find the least crowded hiking trails that will give me the best views?

4.Where can I find a good campground? I’d like to spend a night or two at Camp 4, but I’ve heard that it’s usually full and, first come, first serve, is there a good time of the week to get a spot?

I feel a little silly asking about all this, usually I like to do my own research, but the area is so huge I’d spend my whole week wondering the park. If there’s something that I missed please feel free to educate me.

Thanks for all the help.

Jason

your best bet for basic park info is to get the Supertopo guide. It will be nice to have to help you maximize your time your first trip there.

Finding partners is generally no problem if you walk around Camp 4 and ask.

1. Reg Route on Sunnyside Bench is a fun solo. The walk off is also a great hike with no crowds and great views of halfdome. I would also recommend soloing up half dome about 15 ft left of the cables. Its fun, spooky, and will freak out the tourists! You'll sign autographs at the summit!

2. Climb on El Cap! The E. Butt is a great, easy 10, or if thats too much there is some fun cragging on the SW side.

3. See #1. There's really no such thing as hiking trails in Yosemite with great views and NO crowds. Try the climber's trail up to Higher Cathedral (Braille Book is a fun climb, also).

4. You're on your own there. Staying at Camp 4 is easy- its finding a place to park your car thats hard...
