Nina Williams Sends Speed of Life
First female ascent! |
She also recently dispatched Ground Zero, a stiff V10 on the Lost Boulder in Arcadia Management Area in Rhode Island, using some funky Nina heelhook beta. |
Mark, do you know if anyone was shooting video of the Ground Zero send? |
No, I don't, sorry. I just heard about it the next day when people were messaging to figure out where to go. I would have liked to have seen it, as I have been working on it lately and am getting brutalized. |
Well done Lady! I'm actually quite surprised that this is the first female ascent. I'm sure there are plenty of strong women in the area. Such a stellar problem! I did the Speed of Life back in 2003 or 2004, and it was called v9 at the time, i've seen around the interwebs people (some people at least) now call it v10. Does anyone know if something on it broke? I remember a lot of big moves between small but good holds, sooooo good! |
The holds below the topout were incut finger buckets 10 years ago, now they are the smallest crimps on the route. Also a couple of footholds have broken, but the broken top holds definitely bumped it up a grade. |
The LH sidepull pocket before the lower RH gaston crux got a bit shallower when it was reinforced around 2011 (the flake was flexing). Definitely used to be more of a sinker pocket. |

Check out the great video that Nina put together: |
