Newfoundland, EH?

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with Gros Morne? There's nothing listed in tab, and I'm looking to do some easy-ish bouldering for the summer. Or if there's anything within <40 min of driving? I saw some stuff listed for Pasadena, but its a bit of a drive from where I'll be staying! |

There is a lot of Bouldering on the west coast of Newfoundland! I haven't climbed there but I hear great things about it from everyone who goes. Gull Pond is the best spot from what I've heard (close to Stephenville I believe) with a good range of granite problems and the Asylum near Corner Brook has some long cave problems. There are other spots as well. |

From pictures, it seems like there might be some good trad lines. Anyone have any insight on that? |

1) Be sure to bring plenty of DEET - even if you're from the Adirondacks (NY) you "ain't seen black flies" until you've been to Newfoundland! |

Thanks for the advice. |

I've never made it as far as Newfoundland, but a few years ago I optimistically picked up a little guidebook entitled Newfoundland Climbing Guide.(I understand that there is also a separate bouldering book but have never seen it). While this book lists a number of areas in the Provence, most are clustered around St. John's with the rest (the best climbing) along the south coast, so both quite far from Gros Morne. The lack of inclusion in the book of anything from that region implies that little has been developed (or at least, recorded) in that area. |
